The 2014-2015 OVA season came to an end last weekend for the 16U Girls Air Force squad with a tough loss in the playoff round of the 16U Ontario Championships at RIM Park in Waterloo. This trip to Provincial Championships was the first for most of the girls, but certainly not the last for this talented group of young players.
The weekend was made up of some great play, some mistakes, tears, hugs and a lot of smiles. The journey these young ladies have traveled since September has been a long one. They have improved their skills and level of play and have gelled into a very close-knit team. They are poised for a great 2015-16 season.
“As a coach, you want your players to learn to play the game, to develop their technical skills, to develop confidence in themselves and in their teammates, and a love of the the game. I can honestly say this group of young athletes did just that this year. You should be proud of your accomplishments this year girls, and build on them for next year. You represented yourselves, your parents and the EOVC in a very positive manner. Well done girls! I look forward to September when I get the chance to start the next leg of your volleyball journey with you.” — Coach Cliff
For one last time this season, we offer thanks to all those who so richly deserve it at the end of a long season:
Thanks to Eva Edwards for all the time she takes at tournaments to record these wonderful moments in photos. It is easy to take this for granted, but it should be known that most teams do NOT have a full time photographer along for the ride. Thank her if you can.
Thanks to the parents who support their daughters and the team all year long by driving, catering, cheering and paying for the girls to do all these wonderful things.
And thanks to Coaches Cliff, Jon and Kristen for taking all of their volunteer time to give this gift of sport to these wonderful young ladies. It’s easy to get used to all of this, but they do it because they can, not because they must. Thank you so much for being volunteers and for taking our girls on this amazing ride.
